  • Oak Ridge Country Club is renovating its restaurant for $1.75 million.

  • The project includes a new bar, patio and private dining area.

  • The renovation targets younger families under a five-year strategic plan.

Oak Ridge Country Club is undergoing a $1.75 million renovation of its second-floor restaurant, driven by member survey feedback that ranked food and dining upgrades as the club’s top priority.

The project, funded through a special assessment to members, is the first major facilities investment under the club’s new five-year strategic plan aimed at improving consistency, modernizing social space, supporting younger families, and boosting membership attraction.

“When we did our survey, the highest priority was upgrading our food and our dining,” said Jason Sondell, president of Oak Ridge, which is located in Hopkins.

The renovation calls for a complete remodel of the club’s 3,600-square-foot upper-level restaurant that had been called the W.D. Clark Lounge. The makeover includes a new centrally located U-shaped bar, along with new flooring, ceilings, wall finishes, lighting and furniture.

The renovated outdoor patio will feature dining tables, soft-seating areas, fire tables, upgraded speakers for music and new lighting designed to create a warm evening ambiance, with views of the first tee and 18th green. The club also will construct a private dining area next to the restaurant overlooking the course.

“Creating spaces that allow for socialization, community building, places where people want to hang out, that’s what this is all about,” Sondell said.

Oak Ridge hasn't determined a new name for the renovated restaurant.

The rest of the second floor, which consists mainly of event space, will largely be untouched in this project, though the lobby will receive light upgrades like new lighting, paint and furniture.

Minneapolis-based Zeman Construction is the general contractor on the project and Minneapolis-based Tanek Architecture & Interior Design is the architect.
